Our Baking Blog - Loaf Cakes & Comic Relief
Hi, we have had a very, very busy weekend! It feels that I have been baking non-stop!
With friends coming for dinner I decided to make my all-time much loved cake recipe – lovely Nigella Lawson’s Dense Chocolate Loaf Cake. This recipe can be found in Nigella’s book “How to be a Domestic Goddess”. A similar recipe is her Quadruple Chocolate Loaf Cake. This cake is always moist, rich and chocolatey and I always serve it with a big bowl of fresh strawberries, blueberries and raspberries and a dollop of extra thick double cream! Delicious!
Similarly, I had lots of overripe bananas sitting on the side so used a very favourite Delia Smith book called “Book of Cakes” to make her wonderful Banana & Walnut Loaf recipe (please click on the link for the recipe). This gorgeous recipe is not too sweet and perfect with a cup of tea!
We also wanted to raise some money for Comic Relief so I have had a marathon baking session this morning making some Red Nose cakes using my all in one vanilla fairy cake recipe and topped it with ready-made (yes, I cheated!!) red icing to make our very rustic red nose faces (art has never been my strong point). I found this lovely recipe on the baking mad website (see link).
I found another great recipe by a blogger that I follow Jane’s Patisserie (do find and follow her) and made a batch of her Malteser cupcakes (again see link to recipe). These are really yummy and look fantastic!
We are hoping to sell the cupcakes at work this week with all proceeds going straight to Comic Relief 2019 – so here’s hoping that everyone brings their purses with them on Monday – I shall update you next week with how much we raised!
Remember to go to our Instagram or Facebook pages to enter our competition and maybe you could win our beater as the perfect gift for your Mum for Mother’s Day.
Happy baking! Sam xx
